elizabeth + skuli | wedding

Yet another wedding that has been sitting in my blogging que too long…although I must say that I am catching up…Elizabeth and Skuli were married  at the clubhouse at Big Wolf Lake with a reception following at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake.  The room above the ceremony location where Elizabeth got dressed was dark and moody, with this awesome light flowing in through the windows…it kind of reminded me of an Adirondack Great Camp attic…here’s a few of my favorites…

laura + brian | wedding

This is one of those wedding’s that has been sitting in my blogging que longer than I would like to admit!  Thank you so much Laura and Brian for your patience!  These two live in Boston, but were married at Glenburnie on Lake George…today Glenburnie is a small hamlet of private residences on the Northern most tip of the lake, but once upon a time those private residences were part of a resort which was the summertime playground for the rich and famous (per Brian, think Dirty Dancing)…Brian’s family is lucky enough to own one of those private residences, and these two chose that location to tie the knot!  I understand their facination with this place…and for those who think ‘facination’ is too strong a word, rest assured, it is not!  I understand it because before I moved here, I used to make the weekly trip ‘up North’ to get to this lake from my job in New York City.  All who knew me thought I was crazy to hop in the car on a Friday night, after a long week of work, and drive 4-5 hours to get to the Lake, then to wait until 4am on Monday morning to head back to the city in time for work.  All who knew me except those who lived here.  They got it.  And, Laura and Brian get it as well.  They make the same trek to get here, so that they can wake up on Saturday morning to have coffee on the dock by the lake, and watch the sun set from that same dock on Sunday night.  I hope you love the images I captured for you of your wedding day in this place you love so much!  Enjoy!

The guests…hubby made the life-size frame, and we brougt it along…everyone LOVED it!  We’ll definitely be doing that again!

0356.jpg

0357.jpg

The party…Laura and Brian had a candlelight dinner party, instead of a traditional reception.  I LOVED it.  I used my 50mm 1.4 and bumped my iso up as high as it would go to capture these images…they aren’t the sharpest, but the 50mm I invested in allows me to shoot with almost no light, so I can capture the ambiance as it is, without having to use a flash…I love how the images take me back to that night…hopefully they do the same for Laura and Brian!

And finally, the fireworks!!  Every guests that passed by, looking at me squatting down behind Brian and Laura to get this shot said, how are you going to do that…it’s totally dark out here…and to be perfectly honest, I wasn’t sure it was going to work….but I ended up with a bunch of good images (let’s call it luck, and that same 50mm lens)…here’s one of them…

0338.jpg

That’s all for now folks!  Check back soon for the slideshow…I have one more wedding this weekend and then a big long break until December, so I should have lots of time to catch up on slideshows!!  If you haven’t done so already (and I know alot of you have), click here to be notified by Pictage when the images are available for viewing…

Laura - Awesome!! Completely worth the wait…
We are both amazed that in the brief 7 hour timeframe, having never met us before, you “got” us
Thank you! We can’t wait to see the rest.

lea + graham | wedding

Lea and Graham were married at Lea’s parents greenhouse, Sunnyside Gardens, in Saratoga.  This was my first greenhouse wedding, but hopefully not my last!  It was truly amazing.  And, as if the location weren’t enough, Lea’s parents have this ride-on train there as well.  I don’t know much about trains, but from what I  understand, this is very rare and there are only a few left in operation.  OK, and if that weren’t enough…I knew how truly special this couple was to their loved one’s because Graham is from England and so many people jumped “across the pond” to see these two tie the knot in America!  Here are some of my favorite’s from the day…

The groom’s ride…

0122.jpg

And, the groom…

0123.jpg

The bride, Lea…I love it when friends peak in on the bride getting ready…there is so much excitement in every-one’s expressions…and, as an added bonus, there are actually 3 generations of women in the image…that’s Lea’s sister, mother and grandmother looking on as she says hello to her good friend…

0100.jpg

Saying their vows…I love how the light is shinning through the trees in this one…

0101.jpg

A sweet moment as they say “I do”…

0115.jpg

These next few were a first for me…That’s the best man and his girlfriend leading the guests in a rendition of Sonny and Cher’s, I got you babe…

0117.jpg

0118-2.jpg

0118.jpg

Mr and Mrs…I know I have shown a lot of this image lately, but it’s one of my ‘standards’…I just love the expressions on newlywed’s faces as they take their first steps as Husband and Wife surrounded by their loved one’s…

0106.jpg

A private moment as they walked away from their guests…I almost feel like a peeping tom when I view this image, like I was watching something I wasn’t invited to see…not only that, but it kind of reminds me of that photo of John Kennedy Jr. sweetly kissing the hand of Carolyne Bessette as they left the chapel on their wedding day…

0107.jpg

I don’t know why I love this one…but I keep starring at it, maybe it’s the movement, maybe it’s the light…

0108.jpg

Everything was decked out with gorgeous flowers!

The train!

0129-2.jpg

Sometimes potential clients ask me if I focus on capturing their guests having a good time…rest assured, I’ve got it covered! (p.s. this is one of the reasons I always bring an assistant)

0112.jpg

I think this one is my favorite of the day…In case anyone was wondering, I asked about all the hats…it’s tradition in England for ladies to wear hats to weddings!  I love that Lea did too!

0128.jpg

The rings…Lea’s parents had a bird cage in the green house that the guests were putting their gift envelope’s in, so I used that as my backdrop..

0119.jpg

Two more of my ‘standard’ portraits that I try to get at every wedding…I particularly love these shots because I think they are perfect for my couple’s desks at work…obviously the first one of Graham with the Lea blurred out in the background is for Lea’s desk, and vice versa;-)

0133.jpg

0132.jpg

And finally my last image…there was no formal ‘first dance’ but I did happen to capture this image of Lea and Graham on the dance floor!

Steve Atkins - Hi Ann Marie

This is Steve Atkins, Graham’s Dad – from the Sunnyside Garden Wedding – blog posted 11 October. You may perhaps recall that you loaned me a flashgun during the evening in the Greenhouse.

Anyway just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the pictures on the blog – some of these are absolute winners! But of course this has whetted our appetite to see the rest! We have a family party next weekend for those friends and relatives who couldn’t get across to USA for the wedding and it would be great to get a few more pictures to show them. Any chance you could post a few more on the blog – or maybe send a few to our e-mail address??

Best wishes from UK

Steve Atkins

susanna + brendan | wedding {part two}

Susanna and Brendan tied the knot at the Echo Lake Lodge in Warrensburg, NY.  I absolutely loved this couple, and their families.  In truth, I think Susanna actually commissioned me to be her photographer because hubby and I are close friends with her brother Stephen and his girlfriend Grace (who appeared on this blog earlier this summer at Joy and Stephen’s wedding)…so I hope I didn’t disappoint!  I certainly love the images!  As promised, here is the color version of a few of my favorites (although I must say I’m really excited about how the funky black and white’s came out) as well as a slideshow (caution if you are reading this at work – the slideshow has music – so if it won’t bother your co-workers, crank up the speakers so you can listed along to the awesome Rich Ortiz)…

Here’s a few favorite images..
