*The Stylish Groom*

I am loving how stylish grooms have become lately.  My brides never disappoint, and I’m thrilled the men have jumped on the train!  I just adore Jason’s threads!  Other-than-black-tie outfits are perfect for mountain and lake weddings and they add just the right amount of style to your images!

Adirondack Wedding Photographer * Crystal Lake Wedding

A few weeks ago Jason and Elizabeth were married on a most perfect Adirondack summer day!  There was no humidity, sunny blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70′s….Not to mention the beautiful lakeside setting of Elizabeth’s parent’s home – the Crystal Lake Lodge.

I have been anxiously awaiting this wedding all summer.  You loyal blog stalkers out there may recognize the location of this hidden Adirondack lake as I shot another wedding at this very spot last summer.  One of the best compliments a photographer can receive is referral business (a close 2nd to repeat business) so I was honored when Lisa and Matt, who were married last September at this same location, recommended me to Jason and Elizabeth.   Remember Lisa and Matt?  I abolutely loved this image of them on the dock.  The reflection on the lake was just perfect enough to blow it out and give the image a hazy, sexy feel…..love it!

Back to Jason and Elizabeth, who chose a Quaker wedding ceremony-which I had not experienced before.  When I read about this detail on their wedding day website I was curious, so I did my homework and was prepared for the day’s events.  It didn’t take me long to realize how perfect it was for them.   In a Quaker ceremony the Bride and Groom are seated at the front of the group facing their guests, who are encircled around them.

A Friend of the couple briefly explains the Quaker ceremony to the guests and guides the progression of the ceremony.

Long periods of silence are common and guests are welcome to speak to the couple if they are so moved.   There were not many long periods of silence as so many of their guests were eager to stand and toast the couple, share a story or two and voice their heartfelt wishes for a wonderful life together.  The special place Jason and Elizabeth hold in each of their guests hearts was beautifully expressed to them.  Both the Bride and Groom’s brother’s shared thoughts and touching family stories…

As did the Bride’s mother, who longingly spoke about how grateful she was for her own loving mothing in law, and expressed how happy she was for her daughter to also have that love from her new mother in law, and of her life-long friends who had watched Elizabeth grow and contributed to her wedding day in touching ways, such as making the bouquet she carried…

Throughout the ceremony each friend and family member who toasted the couple spoke of Jason and Elizabeth’s love for family and friends, how giving they are of themselves, and the way in which they welcome all around them into their hearts.  There were countless moments of laughter, fond rememberance of loved ones past, and tears of joy!

A little attention to detail – not only are they amazing people, but Jason and Elizabeth are ridiculously stylish too – I L.O.V.E. Jason’s suit, shoes and tie and Elizabeth’s necklace!

They also took a few moments during the ceremony to exchange vows with one another…

And then it was off to the celebration!

Jason and Elizabeth didn’t miss even the smallest detail.   They were so thoughtful and considerate of their guests - awaiting the party go-ers was this color coordinated selection of flip flops for comfort…

And these bags of fun for the kiddo’s…

Speaking of the young one’s - this wedding had tons of them!  They had so much fun with one another, and the adults had so much fun with each of them!  It warmed my heart to see the smallest members of the family celebrated and treated with so much love.  It reminded me of how lucky I am to be so close to my family and how important it is to pass that along to the little one’s….but I digress….back to the kiddo’s – here’s a few of them…

There was even a future photographer in the group!

The details inside the tent were amazing too!  I especially loved the use of Ball jars - since we have them all over our homestead.  I also adored the pine cones and tree slabs.  Hubby and I used a huge tree slab as the base of our wedding cake, and I wish we had thought of this as well…

These vintage post cards are also a favorite of mine…

Elizabeth and Jason also had an instant camera for guests to use to take their own pictures and tape them into the guest book.  They also found an awesome “E&J” stamp for their guests to decorate their pages with.  I am in love with stamps lately – and I have got to ask them where they found it!   Their guests absolutely loved the camera!

Jason and Elizabeth were so easy to photograph, it almost didn’t feel like I was working – this next one is my favorite of the day…

Although, I love both of these too -

One last image….

Thank you Jason and Elizabeth – for treating me like family and reminding me how important it is to enjoy everyone and everything around you!

* Connor *

I am working on several wedding posts for you, but I took a break to look through some images from my visit with my nephew Connor and Niece Hannah last weekend and came across this image I just had to share…

I love him so much my heart hurts!!

Independence Day With Dear Friends

This year Rob and I spent the Fourth of July with our two dear friends Kim and Alex.  It was on this day last year that hubby and I got the call from Alex that Kim was in labor, and off to the hospital we went…..where we waited….for a VERY long time.  Kim will probably kill me for posting this picture again, but this I think it is relevant to the post;-)  Their first AMS Photographer family photograph….just a few moments after Emma was born -

Some of you loyal blog stalkers may remember these images, but hang on – there will be new one’s in a few moments…

This is one of my favorite newborn images of her…

It’s been amazing to watch her grow in both size and personality and at the same time notice that she still has many of the same mannerisms and facial expressions that she did as a newborn.  One thing that we never really see her do anymore though, is cry – like this….

These days she is all smiles and is so happy to be with everyone.  I snapped these few shots just two months ago…

And these are from her first birthday party yesterday…

I used a little retro-action on this next shot of her playing in her pool….I love that it makes her little lips pop – they are so adorable!

Her pool is like a little oasis with palm trees and all!

Hubby and I got her this Arctic Water Table and the bow is courtesy of hubby as well;-)

She hugs everyone – even her dolls!  My heart melts when it’s me she’s hugging!!!

And when you clap, so does she!  And she’s so happy when she’s doing it that you just want to keep clapping forever!

Kim didn’t know, but Alex and Emma had a secret planned for that evening…and Rob and I were in on it too!  We all headed out on our boat to watch the fireworks on the lake and just as we were settling in Alex was down on one knee asking Kim to marry him!  These next few images aren’t great, but it was DARK and I didn’t want to intrude on the moment with my flash…and our boat is SMALL, so I couldn’t to an angle with a good shot – plus, Alex gave me no heads up and my camera was tucked away in my bag….but this is the first image I got as soon as I could get my camera ready…that’s Kim’s new ring she is fiddling with…

And I turned on the flash for this family shot…

Kim had just enough time to phone her mom, who was anxiously awaiting the call before the fireworks started!

Rob and I were so blessed to spend the day with such good friends, celebrating such happy times.  I wish you all the same happiness this holiday weekend!

Home

This post has been somewhat delayed and the blog somewhat quiet, but after a long trip we are finally home and the studio is back open.   To say that we had an amazing time would somehow be an understatement.  The first National Park hubby and I went to was Zion.  We had flown west and drove to Marble Canyon for the wedding of two dear friends and when they all set out to raft the Colorado, we headed to Zion.  As we drove through the empty flat landscape we began to see signs indicating that the park was just a few miles away.  “How can that be”, I kept asking.  I’d seen the pictures of Zion’s towering cliffs, and I just couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t seeing them…then we started to drive down.  Down, down, down.  One switchback after another into the canyon.  I was so amazed at what I was seeing that I couldn’t breathe.  Somehow I was in another world – a secret place that you would never imagine existed, were you not standing there.  Every sight I saw took my breath away.  And so began out love affair with America’s National Parks.  We have visited several and when I found out I was headed to San Fransisco I knew that hubby had to come, and that we HAD to go to Yosemite!  Here’s why -

Those are just the first three shots I grabbed to show you…there will be plenty more to come!

Once we got home we spent some much needed time with two of our close friends and their beautiful daughter Emma – honestly, we were shocked at how much she had changed since we’d seen her last.  For me, this is the age I love to photograph kids the most – about 10 months – full of expression and just starting to move around.  I just grabbed a few shots in our front yard- so we’ll have to do a whole session soon!  I love each and every one of these.  It’s amazing how much she looks like Alex, and I love how she clasps her little hands!  There’s no way I could pick a favorite.

I mean seriously – how sweet is she?

I have tons of posts lined up for you, including a day by day recap of our trip, so check back soon!
