todd + amanda | wedding

Wedding location:  Lovell, Maine

Reception Site: Alpenglow Farm (Bride’s Mother’s home)

A few weekends ago Rob and I headed up to Maine for Todd and Amanda’s wedding.  Amanda chose not to have any getting ready portraits, but when I arrived she was still in her room with her bridesmaid’s getting dressed, so I couldn’t help but grab a few shots.  The tradition of dressing the bride is one of my favorite moments of the day, and I just couldn’t resist…

 amanda1.jpg

The facial expression in the image on the right is typical for someone trying to get their veil on….those of you who  have been through this before know what I am talking about…for all you bride’s – to – be, you’ll get it soon enough;-)

amanda2.jpg

The flowers were beautiful.  They complimented the day perfectly!  I personally L.O.V.E. the Ball jars – I have them all over my house!

 amanda3.jpg

The horse shoe Amanda’s mom is helping her put on is an old Irish tradition – and a family heirloom.  Amanda will pass it on to the next family bride!

amanda13.jpg

Waiting to see her husband to be for the first time….I just love this moment.

amanda5.jpg

Another one of my favorite moments – Todd’s reaction to seeing his Bride for the first time.  I always, always, always try to capture this shot and you probably see it on this blog over and over again!  Most brides are too teary eyed to actually see it for themselves – and this is ususally their first glance at it.

amanda6.jpg

amanda14.jpg

I don’t ususally post formal portraits here, but I just love this shot of Amanda with her Bridesmaids and I love the flare even more!

amanda7.jpg

Everyone was oogling over that horse shoe!

amanda15.jpg

Not sure which of these next two is my favorite…..

amanda91.jpg

or

amanda8.jpg

the bouquet…

 amanda16.jpg

this was my first shot arriving at the ceremony.  I just love it.

amanda17.jpg

Todd and Amanda were wed in a tiny chapel just down the road from her mom’s house.  I keep coming back to this image.  The lighting brings me back to that day and I love not just the stained glass window, but this whole moment-from the bride’s sister fixing her dress to the friend of the family’s capturing the ceremony on home video, to the smiles you can see on the bride and groom’s fathers – the two gentleman on either side of the image.  This may be my favorite ceremony shot of the whole year!

amanda18.jpg

I have to admit – if there were an award for the most emotional bride – Amanda would win, hands down!  That paired with the stiffling heat that day made me worry she would be my first bride to pass out, but she made it!  And I just love how Todd is looking at her as they say their vows.  A little note on vows – hubby and I selected an Apache Wedding Blessing for our ceremony.  We had never heard it before, but every wedding we have been to this year has included all or part of it…check it out here.

amanda19.jpg

Todd and Amanda’s reception reminded me of an upscale lawn party – and I just love this image of their guests.

amanda20.jpg

How amazing was this day – the view was spectacular and the guests had a wonderful time playing lawn games and relaxing on chairs and benches to enjoy the view and eachother’s company!

amanda12.jpg

amanda11.jpg

The bride and groom!  Amanda’s mom had amazing flower gardens, so I framed this shot with them.

 amanda22.jpg

amanda23.jpg

A few formal portraits…

 amanda24.jpg

Classic warm black and white…

amanda21.jpg

and another one of my favorite’s….yes, that is a chair lift swing!  Does it get any better?

We celebrated my nephew Michael’s birthday on that trip also…that post up next!

emma | newborn portraits

So you loyal blog followers will remember that our close friends Alex and Kim had their baby girl over the 4th of July holiday.  A few weekends ago we got together for Emma’s newborn portraits.  She wasn’t very cooperative, and cried most of the time we were there, but I managed to grab a few good shots despite her bad behavior;-)

She was still pretty happy for this shot.  She had just finished breakfast, or snack, or some ‘eating’ time.  I love that you can see her name in green letters blurred out in the background…

 emma2.jpg

Kim did such an awesome job with Emma’s room, and I just love shooting the nursery….I always find little treasures in there…

 emma1.jpg

Look how cute she curls up her feet!

emma7.jpg

Not long after I arrived, Emma looked like this…..her mood pretty much stayed that way for the rest of our visit….notice the blanket on the back of the chair….Emma’s grandmom made that just for her.  The whole nursery looks like it was decorated around it, and Emma’s announcements (soon to come) match too!emma4.jpg

Mom’s soothing touch.  Just look at that yawn in the image on the left.  Don’t you just want to eat her up????

emma9.jpg

This is one of my favorite’s…

emma11.jpg

Another one on the blanket…look at those cute toes!  And, she already has figured out how to eat her hand!  She’s a little happier in this one…

emma10.jpg

OK, so she didn’t cry the WHOLE rest of our visit, here’s a few others…

emma8.jpg

I grabbed this shot in their living room.  It was pretty dark in there so it’s no really in focus, but I love how Alex is looking at Emma.   Anyone who thinks that children don’t change your life has no idea what they are talking about!

emma6.jpg

I love this next series.  We took Emma out in the backyard to try to find some natural light, but she was tired and cranky (which I think translates in to hungry at that age).  I wasn’t goign for this, but what I ended up with was two versions of Emma…

the first with daddy…

emma3.jpg

the next with mommy…

emma5.jpg

They are my favorite yet!

Last but not least….sometimes I think our puppies get a little ignored when a new baby arrives, so I always try to give them a little extra photo love!

emma12.jpg

We’ll probably try again another weekend to catch Emma – I can’t wait – she’s just perfect.

oreo – pet portraits

Oreo is my soon-to-be sister-in-law’s puppy.  She got him when she learned she had rumatoid arthritis (I’m sure I’ve spelled that wrong), so he is especially special;-)

None of us thought my brother would learn to like him, but Oreo woo’d him with his charm and voila – it’s LOVE.  Until kiddo’s arrive, Oreo is king of the castle!  When we were over for Connor’s birthday/father’s day, I snapped these few photo’s of Oreo – happy viewing!

I love these two - I think Oreo was actually posing for me!

oreo1.jpg

This one is great too – and look at how nice my brother’s grass is;-)  He goes around picking out all the crab grass and replanting Oreo’s pee spots;-)

oreo2.jpg

Look at that cute little tail!

 oreo4.jpg

My favorite of the day…I just love those paws!

Off to Maine for a wedding – images of Kim, Alex and baby Emma when we get back~

Jason & Melissa – Wedding

Wedding Location: Lake Placid, N.Y.

Ceremony and Reception Site:  The Whiteface Club and Resort

Flowers:  Liz at Lake Placid Florist

The Whiteface Club and Resort is an amazing little piece of the Adirondacks and Jason and Melissa’s wedding there was gorgeous.  I usually prefer to meet my clients ahead of time and shoot an engagement session with them (to see why, check out this interview with me on the Well Wed blog) but Jason and Melissa are from NJ and couldn’t make it up before their big day for a shoot, so I was meeting them for the first time on their wedding day.  I’ve done this several times before, and although it’s always worked out, I was still nervous about it.  All that went away though when I stepped into Melissa’s room.  Besides being a drop dead knockout, she is extremely down to earth and wonderful!  I immediately felt comfortable around her.  Here are a few of my getting ready favorite’s…

melissawed35.jpg

melissawed1.jpg

melissawed36.jpg

Some brides are a total whirlwind while getting ready but Melissa was totally calm and centered -

melissawed38.jpg

melissawed3.jpg

A last minute touch-up…

melissawed2.jpg

As I said….Melissa is drop dead gorgeous…really, how lucky am I to have such good looking clients!

melissawed4.jpg

Melissa and Jason opted for a first look, which I L.O.V.E.  Want to know why…get the scoop here.  Anyway, the White Face Club Resort has the perfect spot for this…

melissawed8.jpg

Jason stood on one side of this rustic arbor while Melissa stood on the other…

melissawed9.jpg

As she walked through, she called for him to turn around and of course, I was there to catch his expression…

melissawed37.jpg

I love these next few…

melissawed7.jpg

melissawed6.jpg

melissawed5.jpg

A few details -

melissawed10.jpg

Jason and Melissa had my favorite flower in their arrangements – Chocolate Cosmos!  They actually smell like chocolate!

melissawed11.jpg

the adorable flower girl and ring bearer – I didn’t even have to ask him to kiss her!

melissawed12.jpg

Shortly after their first look the rain started – luckily they had planned their cocktail hour before the ceremony – so their guests were safely inside enjoying eachother’s company, yummy cocktails and fabulous food…and of course, the view from the Whiteface Club Resort Boathouse – breathtaking even in the rain!

melissawed13.jpg

I love how you can see the rain drops falling on the lake!  They also had a harpist to entertain the guests…not sure which image I like better…

melissawed14.jpg

melissawed15.jpg

Just as the rain stopped everyone headed outside for the lakeside ceremony to find a rainbow!  Melissa had requested I use a fish-eye lens during her wedding, and I thought this was the perfect chance to break it out!

melissawed16.jpg

I am not Jewish, but I love the tradition of the chuppah.   The chuppah symbolizes the home the bride and groom will build together…Jason and Melissa’s included portrait’s of their loved one’s.

melissawed17.jpg

Mr. and Mrs.

melissawed19.jpg

Jason and Melissa rushed off to share their first moments as husband and wife together privately.  I think I love this image so much because you can just feel Melissa’s joy!

melissawed18.jpg

The guys started off the reception with a little J.D.  A favorite of my own!  I love this series…

melissawed20.jpg

melissawed21.jpg

melissawed25.jpg

melissawed23.jpg

melissawed24.jpg

I love this image of Melissa and her dad…

melissawed26.jpg

and this one!  To me it totally captures the ambiance of the evening…These images are extremely difficult to capture – since they use only the lights from the D.J. – and I love good D.J. lighting!

melissawed28.jpg

O.K., so this moment just kind of happened out of no where…I was totally lost as to what was going on, and although I’m not posting them here, I have tons of images of Jason and Melissa with unmistakable fear on their faces – in fact I told them later they looked petrified – it’s all fun here though -

melissawed27.jpg

I broke out the fish-eye lens one more time…

melissawed29.jpg

The cake cutting…

melissawed30.jpg

OK, so at the end of the night, Melissa’s dad started their version of the Y-M-C-A, the O-H-I-O…this image is one of my favorite’s because that’s Melissa’s dad and her new husband Jason over to the right of the image…

Check back tomorrow for my favorite’s from their ‘day after’ session, which actually took place during their honeymoon over July 4th weekend as well as a link to the online proofing gallery where you can view all the images!

Happy 4th of July!

Wow – what an amazing three days this weekend has been!  Let me first say that I have made a commitment to spend more time with family and enjoying life this summer – which in turn has meant fewer blog posts here, but I am happy with my decision because last year I would have spent this weekend slaving over my computer (yuk) and this year, here’s what happened -

Friday morning I headed up to Lake Placid for an engagement session with Jason and Melissa at John Brown Farm.  I had not been there before, but the fabulous Rae Barnes shoots there frequently – including a session that she did for Melissa and Jason’s wedding coordinator – who raved about the site, which is how we ended up there.  Here’s a few teasers from the morning…

Check back next weekend for more engagement highlights, as well as the wedding post and a link to the online proofing gallery.

On my way back through Keene I decided to stop and buy a map of the ADK mountains…why – so we can start ticking off each of them as we hike to the top!  This is yet another of my personal goals that has fallen by the way-side, so I bought the map (and a few other things because I’ve never been known to resist a chance to shop) and Saturday morning we headed out to climb Rooster Comb, then it started to DOWNPOUR.  So, we hiked Thomas Mtn. instead, right in our own backyard.  (These pic’s are aweful, and were all taken with my crappy point and shoot camera – but I’ll share them anyway).

 thomas1.jpg

The trailhead is off Valley Woods Road, which is 4 miles east on route 11 from exit 24 of I-87 and just a few miles from our house.  The trail follows an old logging road and is well marked.  About 10 minutes into the hike the trail begins to climb steadily….and continues to climb!  We took the poochies along with us, so we took several short breaks along the way (I would like to say that is the only reason, but I am terribly out of shape – another personal goal which I have let fall by the way-side), and there were several small streams that kept my furry friends plenty happy!

thomas4.jpg

Beethoven, our shitzu-lasa apso mix acutally laid down in one stream and took a little swim!

thomas3.jpg

thomas5.jpg

To give myself (and the poochies) a little credit, at one point in the hike you reach a fork in the trail with a marker sign pointing you to Thomas, which lets you know what lies ahead - .8 miles and a 557 feet of ascent.  That’s nothing to sneeze at.  Round trip is 3 miles, and we did it in just a little over 2 hours, having spent a half of an hour at the top enjoying the view…

thomas6.jpg

Even the poochies seemed to realize that the reward for your hard work was to sit down and take it all in!

thomas7.jpg

Once the weather clears up a bit, we’re going to head back up with our professional gear and get some better images!

Last one from Thomas Mtn…

 thomas2.jpg

We spent the rest of Sat. afternoon on the boat, and came home for some dinner…as we were just about ready to head back out on the boat to watch the fireworks with Rob’s brother and wife we got a call from Rob’s dearest friend – he was having his baby – so, off to the hospital we went!  We waited a long, long time for Emma to arrive.  She made it shortly after midnight.  When Alex came out to tell us Emma was here and both she and Kim were doing well, he walked us through the events of the evening with this look of sheer amazement in his eyes.   Here’s my first family portrait of them…I can’t believe how good Kim looks-

emma.jpg

and my first shot of Emma with ‘uncle’ Rob -

emma17.jpg

There will be plenty more of Emma to come over the next few weeks…

For now, that’s it.  After our late night last night we spent the day today relaxing on the lake with hubby’s brother and wife.  Tonight I wasn’t feeling so well, but let’s face it, this has been one heck of a weekend!

Happy 4th of July friends!

Ann Marie - Hey Kristin – Great to meet you too! You didn’t miss them – these were just a few of my favorite’s from my 4th of July weekend! I had a hard drive melt down, so I’m just getting myself back up and running. More images to come soon! Hang in there…

Kristin - Hey Ann Marie! Love the Day After session with Melissa and Jason, but where are the wedding picts? Did I miss them somewhere? Great meeting you at the wedding! Hope to see you again! Kristin
