Spring is here and for those of you who aren’t sure…I have not fallen off the planet
I’ve been super, super busy wrapping up some outstanding items from last year and getting ready for this year’s awesome clients! So, the blog hibernation has come to an end. I have tons of things to share with you….Jason and Julie’s wedding from last weekend, some new favorite locations (one of which I will be doing an engagement shoot at shortly and the other is a wedding scheduled for the fall), cool stuff for brides, and hubby and I are going to try to go on a little photo safari sometime soon for a wall gallery project I have in my head for the guest bedroom we are renovating in our house. You’ll also notice that I am going to slowly be accepting more and more portrait clients (not in a way that will hurt my wedding clients, though). Family is so important, and I can’t think of a better place to enjoy family than the beautiful place I live in (lake, mountains, beach, etc) and I want to give people real images that caputre the essence of who they are as a family and how they interact with one another…I’ve also got a hot new way to turn these images into art that utilize local materials, blend with the surroundings of the area we live in and compliment the images, and highlight the talents of one special local artisian woodworker – my hubby! But, more on that later. Speaking of wedding’s, I am only accepting one more commission for 2009 and 2010 is booking up quickly (hint, hint, if you are thinking of 10.10.10 - contact me quickly – I’ve already had several inquiries for this date)! I’m hoping to enjoy the spring and get back outdoor’s! By the way – are any of you other chickies out there running around you houses like mad women cleaning up a storm?? What is it about spring that makes the house seem so dirty???
This one is an oldie-but-a-goodie kind of post. I took Meghan and Chris’s engagement pictures months ago, around Christmas time. I didn’t realize when I shot these that I had pneumonia – so when it came time for posting, I was wiped out. Anyway, the 2009 wedding’s start soon so I wanted to get this posted. Also, check in later this week when I announce something exciting for all of my 2008 couples!!
Here’s a few of my favorite’s…
I love the textures and the window in this one…

I love it when couple’s bring their puppies along…

A nice traditional portrait…

This one is more of a moment, and it’s one of my favorite’s…I love the sweaters, and Meghan’s Ugg’s!

Another cute one of the puppy! I just love those eyes.

This shot is definitely a keeper! Everyone should have a shot this great of their new puppy!

I’m so lucky – all of my couple’s are so good looking!!

Yes, that’s the Olympic ski jump in the background…We took these shots at the Lake Placid Golf Club (where their reception was held) after Chris and Meghan enjoyed a day on the slopes.

And finally, my favorite….kind of the same as the one above, but a little different. I wish I had a shot like this of my Hannah when she was a puppy!!! You know how it goes…the cobbler’s kids don’t have shoes….which reminds me -I’ve promised myself to shoot more for myself this summer, and spend more time with my family! Anyway, here it is…

That’s it for now…Check back in a few days for an announcment for all my 2008 couples!

No inspiring words or music, just the photographic results of 30 million people around the world coming together to take a stand, spread a message, and work for change. I wonder if in a few years, the energy surrounding the countdown to Earth Hour will surpass that of New Year’s eve…I hope so.

I’m in…are you? Make a statement – join other across the globe and turn out your lights for one hour, tonight at 8:30 p.m. Why?
This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
To see the global impact we as individuals can make if we band together, check this out.

I am extreemly honored that the article below was just featured on the WellWed blog…and a huge thanks to 2008 bride Bridgette Gallagher for her help with this article!
The e*session
Today’s engagement sessions are modern, hip, fun and most of all, a reflection of you as a couple. The question is, do they make better wedding day images? “Absolutely, without a doubt,” says Ann Marie Somma, photographer. “So much so, that I include an engagement session in every package I offer.”
pick the spot. “I usually let the bride and groom pick the spot – somewhere that means something to them or is a reflection of their lifestyle” says Ann Marie Somma. Amazing photographs can be taken just about anywhere. The local coffee shop you visit together every Saturday morning, your backyard, or the main street of the town you live in. The spot you choose will help your photographer get to know you and your style.

get comfortable. This is most likely the first time you’ve worked with a professional photographer, and it’s normal to be nervous. Engagement sessions are a fun, low-pressure opportunity for the couple and their photographer to get to know one another and become comfortable with each other. “The engagement session let us goof around and get acquainted with our photographer”, says bride Bridgette Gallagher. “Our photographer was very flexible and really took the time to get to know us as a couple and not just a client. It gave us both a preview of how the wedding day would be.”
the photos. If you are planning on announcing your engagement in the newspaper, make sure you ask your photographer to get a traditional portrait. Use the more modern images for your wedding website, to decorate your home, to use as gifts or centerpieces, and for custom save the dates and guest books designed by your photographer. “The guest book is my favorite product” says Ann Marie Somma. “I design coffee table books featuring the couple’s favorite images with plenty of space for the couple’s loved one’s to write their warm wishes”. The result is a modern twist on a traditional keepsake.
what to wear. There are no rules. The most important thing is to be comfortable and express your own personal style. Check with your photographer to see if they allow outfit changes. What you choose to wear should reflect the type of images you want. Accessorize with your favorite hat, jewelry, shoes and even your well-behaved pet! In the end, be true to yourself.
